    There are so many fabric out there, it can be difficult to distinguish one from another at times. This quick review of basic, everyday fabrics should help you choose which one is best for you.

• Nylon  A synthetic fiber that, along with polyester, made underwear fabrics more user-friendly by being easily washed and wrinkle-resistant.Nylon are extremely comfortable and luxurious.

• Cotton A unicellular, natural fiber that grows in the seedpod of the cotton plant.

• Satin A smooth fabric of silk or rayon which has a glossy and brilliant face.

• Spandex Synthetic stretch fabric or fiber made from polyurethane.

• Polyamide A synthetic fabric with wrinkle-resistant capabilities.

• Polyester Large class of synthetic fabrics known for their wrinkle resistance.Any of several synthetic textile fibers   sometimes used for underwear that are produced by forcing a cellulose solution through fine spinnerets and solidifying the resulting filaments.

• Tactel Registered brand of synthetic performance fabric known for its springy, lightweight construction and wicking power.

• Velvet A cotton, silk or nylon fabric with a dense soft and usually lustrous pile and plain underside.

• Leather A fabric made from animal hide.

• Lycra An extremely elastic fabric made of synthetic fiber. Lycra was originally trademarked by DuPont, for an elastomeric effect.

• Chiffon An extremely light, thin and sheer fabric usually made of nylon, rayon or silk.

• Elastic A band of rubber or latex that has the property of high elasticity. It's used for the waistband of certain styles of underwear.

• Mesh Type of fabric, often made of synthetic material, that is full of small openings similar to a net. Used for lingerie/underwear as fabric for a full piece or as inserts for an effect that is intended to be either sensual, athletic or both.

• Silk Fine, lustrous fiber composed mainly of fibroin and produced by certain insect larvae to form cocoons, especially the strong, elastic,fibrous secretion of silkworms used to make thread and fabric.Silk fabric is sometimes used for men's and women's underwear.

As one wistful male reader pointed out, many of the panties we ladies take for granted with their skimpy styling simply won't work for a man who wants to wear panties. Men, it would seem, have additional anatomical structures which make the wearing of certain types of women's panties unbearable. When thinking about a good pair of granny panties, you need to think about fabrics. Cotton is my personal nemesis, but it is insanely popular in the world of granny panties, so if that's your bag baby, then drop down to your local purveyor of ladie's undergarmenry, pick up a multi pack of large full breif panties, and we shall speak no more of it.
However, for those of you who eschew cotton for more fine feeling fabrics, there are a world of alternatives out there. Nylon is always a favorite, its light and gauzy feel replicating some of the softness of silk, but without the hefty price tag or the wailing and gnashing of teeth when you accidentally put it through the wash with some towels.
Microfiber is also a nice choice. Microfober panties tend to be designed to be quite snug, which can be an enjoyable sensation for men who wear panties. Microfiber also has a nice feel to it, and allows the skin to breathe, which is useful if you want to wear panties to work and your job happens to involve a great deal of physical activity such as construction, or perhaps inflitrating secret Russian spy bases.
Polyblends can work if you want a pretty look. There are some interesting blends out there which emulate the look of satin and other high end fabrics, though be warned that these things can start to pill the moment you look at them, let alone wear or wash them. Handwash these babies if you want to keep them around for more than a few weeks.
And there we have it. Full coverage, sweet sensual fabrics, plenty of room to move, everything a guy needs in a pair of panties. If you've been avoiding granny panties because of the stigma associated with them (brought on my obnoxious people like me who keep calling them granny panties - I'm more of a bikini cut sort of girl myself), avoid them no more! Styles of Panties

Panties are divided into various types based on such criteria as amount of rear coverage,

width at the sides, and height at which they are worn.

These categories are not necessarily distinct and usage may vary somewhat among brands.

• Briefs rise to the waist or just below the navel and have full coverage in the rear.
  
  • Classic (or full) brief - the sides extend below the hip
  • High-cut (French cut) brief - the sides are somewhat narrower
  • Boyleg briefs (or boyshorts) - styled after men's briefs and may have short legs extending below the crotch.
  • Control panties (or control briefs) - a special type of briefs designed to offer support and give a slimmer appearance; these usually contain a stretch material such as spandex and may extend above the waist.
• Hipsters are similar to briefs, but are worn lower with the waistband around the hips.
• Bikinis are also worn at the hips, but the fabric at the sides is narrower. In the string bikini, it disappears altogether to leave the waistband as a "string". The rear coverage of the bikini is not as full as with the brief. Bikini is the most widely worn style among women worldwide.
• Tangas have full rear coverage, but the waistband is reduced to a narrow strip at the sides.
• Thongs have a waistband similar to tangas, but the rear coverage is not as full. The crotch is extended to the back with a narrow strip of fabric fitting between the buttocks, which becomes wider toward the top.
• G-string is a thong with virtually no rear coverage, the narrow strip in the back extending from the crotch all the way to the waistband. It shows most of the buttocks.
